The Calgary Highlanders Regimental Association

Formerly the 10th Battalion Calgary Highlanders Association

Welcome to The Calgary Highlanders Regimental Association contact page.

The Association is made up of Calgary Highlanders, both serving and retired, as as well as friends of the regiment. In its broadest terms the Association serves as the primary link between the Unit and its past members. Our activities include publishing The Glen (the regimental newsletter), operating the Regimental Kit Shop and organizing social events. New members are more than welcome.

Below you will find information about our mission and governance and how to contact us.

Mission

Our mission within the regimental family is to:

  • support the Unit by operating a self-sustaining kit shop.

There are three categories of Association membership.

All present or former Calgary Highlanders become Ordinary Members simply by paying the annual dues, currently set at $15.00.

Any person 18 years of age or older who holds an interest in the Regiment may apply for an Associate Membership. The Board of Directors may grant conditional associate memberships but final approval is given by a majority vote of members at the next annual general meeting (AGM). Associate members pay annual dues to retain membership.

Finally, a limited number of Honorary Memberships may be awarded to those persons who have distinguished themselves in service to the Regiment.

All members (with the exception of those holding conditional memberships) may vote at annual and special meetings and run for office.

Annual dues should be received by 15 April and may be mailed to:

Mewata Armoury
801-11th Street SW

Annual Commemorations

The Regiment commemorates St Julien’s Day on the weekend closest to 22 April, commemorating the counter-attack by the 10th and 16th Battalions, CEF, on Kitcheners’ Wood on “The Glorious 22nd of April, 1915”. The occasion is marked by the annual reunion dinner of The Calgary Highlanders Regimental Association. The Regiment also exercises its right to the Freedom of the City of Calgary on this weekend by marching to church parade and a wreath laying at City Hall.

The Regiment also commemorates the Battle of Walcheren Causeway, one of many hard earned Battle Honours awarded to the Regiment for its service during the Second World War. The commemoration of this battle, on the weekend closest to 31 October, has traditionally included the participation of the Dutch community of Calgary.

The Regiment also participates in Remembrance Day services in communities throughout southern Alberta, from where the majority of their recruits were drawn during the Second World War.
