Overview - Calgary Highlanders 1990s

The Calgary Highlanders operated in the field in the 1990s as part of modern combat arms teams including, as shown below, armoured units and an Air Defence units, as well as artillery, engineers, aviation and other assets.

While Calgary Highlanders have been involved in peacekeeping and other international missions since the end of the Second World War, the 1990s saw an increase in operational tempo for the Canadian Forces beginning with missions to the former Yugoslavia, and opportunities for deployment increased. Duty also became increasingly hazardous; Calgary Highlanders had been subjected to (and in some cases injured by) hostile fire in the former Yugoslavia while on operations. Below are photos taken in the former Yugoslavia by Calgary Highlanders serving there.
