Battlefield Pilgrimage - April 2015

Overall Plans

  • 22-24 April 2015 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the historic first gas attacks of the First World War and the subsequent battles that would mark the baptism by fire of the 1st Canadian Division.

  • The 10th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (perpetuated by The Calgary Highlanders) conducted a historic counter-attack at Kitcheners’ Wood to stop the German advance.

  • Dates: 17 April to 1 May 2015

  • Cost: Approximately $3500-4000

  • Eligibility: Serving or Retired Members of the Regiment (each member can bring a guest with them). Persons beyond this is by special request.

  • How to sign-up: Contact Major Peter Boyle at THIS EMAIL ADDRESS or 403.470.7091

The final price will not be known until airfare is released for that period – This will occur in June of 2014. When the final price has been announced, participants will need to commit to the trip or have their deposits refunded. Deposits are needed in advance so that hotel bookings can be made – the risk of delaying hotel bookings is that we will not get the hotels that we want in some places – Ypres in particular.

  • Four “Hub” cities, including

    • London, England

    • Ypres, Belgium

    • Caen, France

  • Trip will include stops at places like St. Julien, Vimy, Passchendaele, the Somme and Normandy.

  • Please request a detailed itinerary from Major Boyle if you would like additional details.
